EHR and Process Redesign Workshop for Medical Office
Staff
e2o Health provided Health IT training for
incumbent healthcare workers from May through September 2011. This training was
provided in partnership with Human Resources Marketing Services (HMRS) to
incumbent workers who were already working in healthcare practices.
The training lasted six weeks and included
all topics relative to healthcare information technology. The results of this training
were that the workers gained a foundation of knowledge which better prepared them
for adapting to changes which come with EHR implementations in their practices.
Much of the clinical staff’s workflow in the
medical office changes when EHRs are implemented in a practice. This can be
threatening and create resistance when the workers don’t really understand the
benefits of adopting EHR and EPM systems. We trained the office staff in the
objectives of the HITECH Act and Meaningful Use, and how medical errors are
greatly reduced by using electronic systems for data collection and
transmission. We also showed them how, by becoming proficient in these
products, their professions are greatly enhanced and their skill sets become more
valued by their employers.
From the feedback we received from Glendale
Community College and HMRS, we know that our time and efforts were well spent giving
this quality HIT training to medical office staff, with excellent results!
